Hugo Teixeira grew up in the Luso-American community in San Jose, California. After living abroad for 14 years across France, Portugal, Western China, and Macau, he returned to the United States to complete an MFA in Photography and Related Media at the Rochester Institute of Technology. As an artist and educator, his work has been exhibited in the United States, Europe, and China.
Having immigrated from Portugal to the United States as a child, and having settled in China as an adult, his sense of belonging ebbs and flows. As such, Teixeira's work consists of photographic installations and collages created in response to the question, "Where are you from?" Inspired by magical realist literature and research about migration, displacement, and identity, he adopts a hybrid production approach combining vernacular fabrication with contemporary and historical photographic techniques.
The resulting photo objects exploit the semantic properties of photographs and materials to express the complex narratives of migrants and their descendants. They are both visual and haptic, functioning like shrines that encourage quiet contemplation of an unreachable home.
戴思乐（Hugo Teixeira）在美国加利福尼亚州圣何塞的葡裔社区中长大。在法国、葡萄牙、中国西部和澳门生活了十四年后，他返回美国，在罗切斯特理工学院完成了摄影及相关媒体艺术硕士学位。作为艺术家与教育者，他的作品曾在中国、美国和欧洲展出。
由于童年时从葡萄牙移民到美国，成年后又定居于中国，他的归属感始终起伏不定。因此，戴思乐的摄影装置与拼贴作品，皆是源于对“你来自何方？”这一问题的响应。受到魔幻现实主义文学，以及对移民、流离失所和身份认同研究的启发，他采用了一种结合民间手工艺与当代及历史摄影技法的混合创作路径。
这些最终呈现的光影物件，充分运用了照片与材料的语意特性，以表达移民及其后代复杂的叙事。它们兼具视觉与触觉感官，如同引导人们静思那片遥不可及之故土的祭坛。
